Response Surface Methodological Analysis on growth of Clostridium pasteurianum

چکیده
The individual and interactive effects of initial pH, temperature and initial substrate concentration on the growth of Clostridium pasteurianum was investigated in this study. Statistics based experimental designs are applied to optimize the process parameters for biomass concentration. The biomass concentration (g/l) was evaluated at various levels of initial substrate concentration, temperature and initial pH by applying Response Surface Methodology (RSM). RSM was adopted to investigate the mutual interaction between the variables and to identify the optimal values that bring out maximum biomass concentration. The optimal conditions for maximal biomass concentration (g/l) are as follows: initial substrate concentration 12.5 g/l, temperature 34.9°C and initial pH 4.9. Experiments carried out under the statistically designed experimental conditions confirmed the optimality since maximum biomass concentration of 0.28 (g/l) was obtained at the optimum conditions.

Towards improved butanol production through targeted genetic modification of Clostridium pasteurianum
Declining fossil fuel reserves, coupled with environmental concerns over their continued extraction and exploitation have led to strenuous efforts to identify renewable routes to energy and fuels. One attractive option is to convert glycerol, a by-product of the biodiesel industry, into n-butanol, an industrially important chemical and potential liquid transportation fuel, using Clostridium pas...

Interspecies electron transfer is a common way to couple metabolic energy balances between different species in mixed culture consortia. Direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET) mechanism has been recently characterised with Geobacter species which couple the electron balance with other species through physical contacts. Using this mechanism could be an efficient and cost-effective way to d...

BACKGROUND Biodiesel production results in crude glycerol waste from the transesterification of fatty acids (10 % w/w). The solventogenic Clostridium pasteurianum, an anaerobic Firmicute, can produce butanol from glycerol as the sole carbon source. Coupling butanol fermentation with biodiesel production can improve the overall economic viability of biofuels. However, crude glycerol contains gro...
متن کاملFermentation of mixed substrates by Clostridium pasteurianum and its physiological, metabolic and proteomic characterizations
BACKGROUND Clostridium pasteurianum is becoming increasingly attractive for the production of chemicals and fuels such as n-butanol and 1,3-propanediol. Previously we have shown that dual substrate fermentation using glucose and glycerol enhanced the cell growth and butanol production significantly. Although C. pasteurianum can grow efficiently with either glucose or glycerol alone, under certa...

THE ACTIVITY OF REDUCED FERREDOXIN: CO(2) oxidoreductase in Clostridium pasteurianum was correlated with the accumulation of formate in the growth medium. The data indicate that the in vivo function of the enzyme is to mediate formate synthesis rather than its degradation.
